Applications of Derivatives · Monotonicity of composite functions

Let f:R→Rf : \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R} be a twice differentiable function such that f′′(x)>0f''(x) > 0 for all x∈Rx \in \mathbb{R} and f′(a−1)=0f'(a-1) = 0, where aa is real number. Let g(x)=f(tan⁡2x−2tan⁡x+a)g(x) = f(\tan^2 x - 2\tan x + a), 0<x<π20 < x < \dfrac{\pi}{2}.

Consider the following two statements:

(I) gg is increasing in (0,π4)\left(0, \dfrac{\pi}{4}\right)

(II) gg is decreasing in (π4,π2)\left(\dfrac{\pi}{4}, \dfrac{\pi}{2}\right)

Then,

  1. (1)Neither (I) nor (II) is True
  2. (2)Only (II) is True
  3. (3)Only (I) is True
  4. (4)Both (I) and (II) are True
