d- and f-Block · Enthalpy of atomisation

Given below are two statements :

Statement-I : Presence of large number of unpaired electrons in transition metal atoms results in higher enthalpies of their atomisation.

Statement-II : dxy=dxz=dyz<dx2−y2=dz2d_{xy} = d_{xz} = d_{yz} < d_{x^2-y^2} = d_{z^2} and dx2−y2=dz2<dxy=dxz=dyzd_{x^2-y^2} = d_{z^2} < d_{xy} = d_{xz} = d_{yz} are the d-orbital splittings in [Fe(HX2O)X6]X3+\ce{[Fe(H2O)6]^{3+}} and [Ni(Cl)X4]X2−\ce{[Ni(Cl)4]^{2-}} complex ions respectively.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :

  1. (1)Both Statement-I and Statement-II are correct.
  2. (2)Both Statement-I and Statement-II are incorrect.
  3. (3)Statement-I is correct but Statement-II is incorrect.
  4. (4)Statement-I is incorrect but Statement-II is correct.
